This channel allows the user to launch Wii or GameCube games from the disc drive of the Wii.
There are two methods to "insert" a disc. To set the Default ISO, you can either right click a game in the Game List and select "Set as default ISO"; or you can set it in Config -> Paths -> Default ISO. Alternatively, you can insert a disc while a game/system menu is running with "Change Disc", located in File -> Change Disc or by right-clicking a game in the game list.
Problems
Savestates/GameINIs/Cheats Do Not Work
Due to how Dolphin works, Dolphin only recognizes the first thing loaded as the game that is being played. For example, if you load Super Smash Bros. Brawl from the Game List, and use the home menu to go to the Wii System Menu, then change disc and load Xenoblade Chronicles, the game settings from the GameINI, cheats, and even any savestates you make will be for Brawl and not Xenoblade. There is no solution at this time.
GameCube Games Do Not Load
Disc Channel can recognize GameCube games but launching them with the Disc Channel is not possible at this time due to the complexities of the Starlet coprocessor and the Wii's GameCube Mode (MIOS).
Hang on Loading Disc
Previous versions of Dolphin gave an error when attempted to load a game with the disc channel. Now that it better emulates Wii Menu functions, the emulated Disc Channel is able to read the discs, and will even try to launch the game, but it will hang, stuck on a black screen unable to load the game. Fixed by 4.0-1953.
Configuration
This channel does not need non-default settings to run properly.
Version Compatibility
The graph below charts the compatibility with Disc Channel since Dolphin's 2.0 release, listing revisions only where a compatibility change occurred.
Testing
This channel has been tested on the environments listed below:
Test Entries | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Revision | OS | CPU | GPU | Result | Tester |
r7598 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Quad Core Xeon @ 2.8GHz | ATI Radeon HD 5770 | Launching any game results in the following error: IOCTL_ES_LAUNCH: Game tried to reload ios or a title that is not available in your nand dump TitleID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Dolphin will likely hang now. | SephirothFanatic |
3.0 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Quad Core Xeon @ 2.8GHz | ATI Radeon HD 5770 | Launching any game results in the following error: IOCTL_ES_LAUNCH: Game tried to reload ios or a title that is not available in your nand dump TitleID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Dolphin will likely hang now. | SephirothFanatic |
3.0-376 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Quad Core Xeon @ 2.8GHz | ATI Radeon HD 5770 | Launching any game results in the following error: IOCTL_ES_LAUNCH: Game tried to reload ios or a title that is not available in your nand dump TitleID xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Dolphin will likely hang now. | SephirothFanatic |
3.5-268 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 | ES_Launch merger. Thanks to the fixing of ES_Launch and other improvements, the disc channel no longer has any errors even with panic handlers. But it is still unable to load games. | MaJoR |
4.0-1977 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.1GHz | AMD Radeon HD 5450 | The Disc Channel can now launch Wii games without problems, but it cannot load Gamecube games yet. | Lukeee123 |
