Resident Evil 4, known in Japan as Biohazard 4 (バイオハザード4 Baiohazādo Fō), is a survival horror video game developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by Capcom and Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube. The story follows Leon S. Kennedy, who is sent on a mission to rescue Ashley Graham, the President's daughter, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious cult. Traveling to a rural village in Europe, he encounters a horde of violent villagers who pledge their lives to the cult.
Unlike previous games in the series, Resident Evil 4 has stronger focus on combat, with many more enemies to deal with. As such, it uses a new third person, over the shoulder combat system for easier aiming. Other changes to the game include context sensitive actions to interact with the environment, and quick-time event cutscenes.
RE4 was ported to the Wii with Resident Evil 4: Wii edition, with new Wii Remote based aiming controls and extra content from other platforms.
Problems
Crashes in Castle
In version 3.0, the game consistently freezes when your character walks to the right button switch in the puzzle soon after the first mini-boss. This hang only affects the JIT recompiler engine, so two options are available: (1) switch to the JITIL recompiler for this one part, or (2) get Ashley to step on the plate instead.
Audio
Background music (BGM) does not loop properly, so whenever BGM should be playing continuously, it will only play once through its loop and then cut out. This is a well known issue. This affects all BGM, not only area BGM but ganado BGM as well. In addition, when FPS drops, the sound effect channels sometimes start playing random sound effects continuously. These sound problems may be corrected with DSP LLE.
