Burnout 2: Point of Impact is the first sequel to the racing game Burnout and builds upon this strong speed-driven franchise with improved gameplay, new game options and bigger, better and more insane crashes. Players can test their nerves and skills by taking to the air, sliding through corners, and swerving to avoid head-on collisions, while filling their meter to unleash a burst of speed previously exclusive to airplanes. In addition to an offensive driving 101, Burnout 2 features a four-player crash mode, six different locations with 30 stages, realistic weather effects, and 14 cars (plus hidden ones).

Problems

Low-Resolution Vehicle Textures

Certain vehicles in-game can render with low resolution textures. See issue 7708.

No Music

Background music is missing even with LLE after 3.5-1070. See issue 7122. This was fixed by 4.0-3409.

Missing Flame Exhaust

OpenGL video backend fails to render the flame exhaust effect while boosting. Changing to Direct3D fixes the issue. See issue 7002. Fixed in 4.0-4699.

r6519 Windows XP x86 AMD 64 X2 4000+ NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Full playable but no motor car sound
r7480 Linux Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 ATI Radeon HD 4850 No engine sound. Small and rare graphic corruption. Grinding sparks invisible and making the game run horribly slow if AA is enabled. Game frequently freezing and crashing. Dark Fread
r7624 Linux Ubuntu 10.04 x86_64 AMD Phenom II X3 720 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Running 2x Native Resolution, 2x AA, 4x AF @ 80-100%. Looks and sounds great will full performance settings and LLE on Thread. Some slowdowns, but pretty minor. keller999
3.5 Linux Fedora 20 x86_64 AMD Phenom II X6 1090T NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti 60+ FPS. works great. fast_rizwaan
4.0-3514 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Runs nearly perfectly, with full audio support using HLE audio. Does momentary hiccups when the game must load a really busy area but it's so rare and brief that it does not cause problems. MasterV
4.0-4250 Windows 8.1 x64 AMD Athlon X4 750K @ 4.1GHz AMD Radeon HD 7770 60+ FPS, with only minor occasional dips. This dive-bombs to around 45FPS on tracks with rain effects and all the way to 30FPS on tracks with snow effects.
4.0-4424 Linux Ubuntu 14.04 Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 100% in menus and almost all stages; can have slowdown to 85% in rain, and one snow stage in particular has major freezing/slowdown issues (though only in one direction, and only for one part of the track, near the ski resort). Audio perfect. Replays can slow down to 90% while displaying many wrecked cars at once. Able to beat half the game including bonus stages with no major issue. Only one noticeable flashing texture but that was outside of the actual track, during a wreck. Missing exhaust flames while boosting. Xerxes
4.0-4969 Linux Ubuntu 14.10 Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 A lot of effects that were missing in 4.0-4424 are now fixed under OpenGL, such as rain, grind sparks, and flame exhaust/tail lights, making the experience while playing much better. There's also less slowdown in general throughout the game, however Crystal Summit Lake (snow conditions) still has major slowdown/stuttering like before which makes the stage almost unplayable.
