Original vs Classics Version

Most of the original covers online seem to all use the same blurry source image and top out at 400x550. I did find an nicer alternate version, though it's skewed a bit yellow. Kolano (talk) 08:13, 11 December 2012 (CET)

Ok, EW. JPGed, hue shifted, and saturation is murdered. That is terrible. Here's the one I found that I considered. It's decent, but the JPG compression doesn't sit very well with enlarged pixel art. Honestly... that cover is just terrible. Even if we found the original cover in perfect quality PNG, the NES Classics cover is simply a better cover, and I'd still prefer it. That's subjective, so if you want to overrule me on it I won't fight you, but still... I'm an artist, I like pretty pictures. - MayImilae (talk) 08:19, 11 December 2012 (CET)

Here's a slightly color corrected version, though I didn't spend much time with it so it's still off a bit.

Doesn't really bother me one way or the other, but there will be other NES games with the classic grey/pixel art to deal with. And, yes, this sort of artwork does scream for PNG compression, but good luck convincing the Internet of such. Kolano (talk) 08:22, 11 December 2012 (CET)

...Still terrible. Dear god I hope you don't want to put that on the page >_<. As for the other ones with the grey borders, I'm not really worried about it, game covers vary a lot, after all, so it's not like Metroid would stand out. Well... do you really want the original artwork? - MayImilae (talk) 08:30, 11 December 2012 (CET)

As a rule, I'd generally prefer the original artwork be used, but I don't really care. I know there are a number of "Player Choice" covers in the GameCube list I'd like to replace, but can't find good originals for.Kolano (talk) 08:37, 11 December 2012 (CET)

Well, let's just leave the classics version up. At least for now. I prefer it and there are no decent quality versions of the original so, so I think it works better all around. - MayImilae (talk) 08:44, 11 December 2012 (CET)
