Need for Speed is back and faster than ever in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Engage in the next generation thrill of arcade racing with the spiritual successor to Need For Speed III Hot Pursuit. The sequel houses a stable of exclusive and exotic cars from the world's most coveted licensors including Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini. Become the "champion road racer" by conquering numerous racing events, all carrying rewards such as cars, tracks, and high performance upgrades. The game challenges the driver to dodge traffic, police, and natural elements in high speed and high style. And it's up to you to evade any cops on your path, since getting busted just might end your career.
Emulation Information
High Requirements
This game maxes out the GameCube GPU hardware by rendering as many frames as it can normally causing it to render between 20 - 30 FPS. Dolphin, by default, emulates an "infinitely fast" GPU, causing the game to always run at 60 FPS, making it more demanding than most GameCube games. Use Dolphin's "CPU Clock Override" in the Advanced configuration tab to lower the Gamecube's clock speed can force the game to slow down enough to be run properly.
Problems
VP6 Videos
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 uses the VP6 video codec, common in Electronic Arts' titles, causing its videos to have vertical line artifacts and other glitches on many graphics cards. The Software Render will display VP6 video correctly, but is typically too slow. VP6 rendering also reacts poorly to the Force Texture Filtering enhancements (and Anisotropic Filtering on NVIDIA), causing further scrambling. See issue 7193. In 5.0-15515 or newer, this can be fixed with "Manual Texture Sampling" in the Graphics Settings -> Advanced menu.
