An epic gladiatorial saga comes to life. The darkness of the Great War has passed and the lands of Gladius are peaceful once more. Now combat takes place only in the gladiator arenas, where schools from around the world compete for the title of Imperial Champions. Follow the grand saga of two young heroes, Ursula and Valens, as they recruit and train a team of warriors and compete in the gladiator games. Battle with deadly weapons and powerful magic as you learn vital combat tactics while you enhance and customize your own characters. Strategies are nearly endless, with 16 character classes and over 100 unique character types from which to choose.

Problems

Hang

Game will eventually hang when initially selecting a character, engaging a fight, viewing the world map or during ingame cutscenes. Disabling Dualcore and lowering the Emulated CPU Clockrate to around 60% can help make the game more stable. Refer issue 10669.

As of 5.0-14447 the NTSC of the game received a game patch to work-around the race condition. Since 5.0-14814, all regions have the patch. This means that the game is playable even in Dual Core and without clock rate changes on all regions.

Videos

Videos require XFB emulation to be set to Real. Fixed with Hybrid XFB in 5.0-5874.

Testing

This title has been tested on the environments listed below:

Test Entries
Revision OS CPU GPU Result Tester
r5000 Windows 7 AMD A6-3400M @ 2.4 GHz AMD Radeon HD 6650M Works fine with dual-core enabled. It runs too slow for this machine, though. I played nearly the entire game with no issues other than cutscene audio issues. Starscream
3.0-811 Mac OS X 10.7.5 Intel Core i7 @ 2.2 GHz AMD Radeon HD 6750M Not working. I get an endless white and silent screen at launch. I tried default settings with different combinations of DSP HLE or LLE, all 3 CPU engines (Interpreter, JIT Recompiler and JITIL experimental recompiler) and enabling/disabling dual core: same result in all cases (except for displayed framerate). A few times, the emulator crashed when quitting. Nolendil
3.5-1101 Mac OS X 10.7.5 Intel Core i7 @ 2.2 GHz AMD Radeon HD 6750M Playable but slow. The framerate is usually around 20-30FPS in-game and 40FPS in menus on this computer, which produces choppy sound. I played all the tutorial fights (Pirgos training) and didn't see any other issue. Nolendil
5.0-9 Windows 10 x64 Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.5 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Running at 100% speed on DX11, x4 internal resolution, no AA/AF. Needs dual core disabled, otherwise the game will hang at the first fight or upon entering the world map for the first time. RealXFB is needed to display videos. Turnspit
5.0-681 Windows 10 x64 Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.5 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 The last working version for this game at 100% speed with dual core disabled and RealXFB to display videos. Every version afterwards results in a crash on the first battle, no matter which settings are used. Turnspit
5.0-13495 Windows 10 x64 Intel Xeon E3-1245 @ 3.3 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 The game still hangs during the tutorial fight, as in issue 10669. Nolendil
5.0-14447 Windows 10 x64 Intel Xeon E3-1245 @ 3.3 GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 The US version now works fine with the provided patch. I played all available battles up to the second league in Belfort without issue. The frame rate is close to 60FPS most of the time and is still around 50FPS in the worst cases (e.g. showing as much crowd as possible in Pirgos). NB: The FPS drops don't seem to depend on graphics settings but enabling the MMU makes them much more dramatic (down to 20-30FPS). Nolendil
