Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4 is an upcoming video game in the Lego video game franchise, developed by Traveller's Tales and published by Warner Bros.<ref>http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/warner-confirms-lego-harry-potter_9</ref> The game is based on the Lego Harry Potter line and its storyline will cover the first four books of the Harry Potter series: Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone in the U.S.), Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire.

Gameplay

Lego Harry PotterTemplate:'s gameplay is similar to that of most previous Lego games, with an emphasis on collecting and exploring, rather than the emphasis on combat used in Lego Indiana Jones 2: The Adventure Continues and Lego Batman: The Videogame. Casting spells is an integral part of the gameplay; few are available from the start, but more are unlocked as the player progresses. For example, the Wingardium Leviosa spell, which almost all characters can use, enables the player to lift and arrange Lego bricks, and the Immobulus spell can freeze other characters. Potion-making is another integral feature; potions can help the player complete levels or, if created incorrectly, have adverse side effects such as turning the player into a frog.<ref name="GI"/>

Like the previous Lego games, there are a large number of characters playable, up to 140. These include Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Albus Dumbledore, Rubeus Hagrid, Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, as well as some unusual ones such as Fang, Dobby, Buckbeak and centaurs.<ref name="GI">Template:Cite journal</ref> Some characters have different abilities, based on the skills of their book counterparts. For instance, Harry is a very good broomstick rider and he is able to perform tricks and shoot jinxes when he is on a broom, Hermione is the best character at casting spells, and Ron can use Scabbers to crawl into otherwise unreachable areas.<ref>http://games.kidswb.com/official-site/lego-harry-potter/#/us/vip/video/</ref><ref>http://www.videogamer.com/ps3/lego_harry_potter_years_14/preview-2209.html</ref>

The game will also employ the two player split-screen technique and online support for PS3 and Xbox 360 that was introduced in Lego Indiana Jones 2.<ref>http://www.co-optimus.com/article/3494/LEGO_Harry_Potter_Conjures_up_Split_Screen_Co-Op_in_Latest_Trailer.html</ref><ref>http://www.gametrailers.com/game/lego-harry-potter/11411</ref>
