In Luigi's Mansion, Luigi steps out from the shadow of his brother Mario and into the gloomy shadows of a very haunted house in this, his first-ever starring role. When Luigi learns that he's the proud new owner of a creepy old mansion, he's thrilled. Of course, his feelings immediately shift when his brother, the storied Mario, disappears from the house. Now, you'll have to help Luigi track his brother down, making your way through expansive 3D levels. Each stage is packed with ghosts and ghouls to put you on edge; and you'll be armed with a flashlight and a vacuum cleaner to help you capture your foes. Armed with a flashlight and a customized vacuum cleaner, Luigi must rid the mansion of Boos and ghouls — and find his missing brother to boot!

Problems

Sound Problems

As of 4.0-1300, music stopping and popping has been fixed. However, volume issues and associated distortions still remain. Use DSP LLE to avoid these problems.

Static in the Music Sheets Battle (LLE)

With DSP LLE, there are bursts of static during the Music Sheets battle. DSP HLE does not exhibit this problem. Since it is localized to just this one fight, and is relatively minor, DSP LLE is still recommended. See issue 7145.

Lines on Geometry

Even on console, Luigi's Mansion has minor depth issues present throughout the game, usually as dark lines throughout on Luigi's Face and ears. However, since the shadows were fixed in 4.0-1288, Dolphin currently make this error more severe than on console, showing thick black lines through objects that rapidly move as Luigi moves through the level.

The only solution to this problem is to enable Free Look, and use Shift-S to pull the camera back to the point where the depth issue no longer occurs. On default settings, the range will be 6 to 10 taps for the right look, however since Free Look speed settings are permanently saved and cannot be reset, adjust it to a point where the lines are gone but shadow separation from surfaces is minimal. See issue 7123. Fixed in Dolphin 4.0-2626.

No Shadows

Shadows are missing, significantly reducing the ambiance of many scenes. See issue 4674. Fixed by 4.0-1288.

Configuration

Only configuration options for the best compatibility where they deviate from defaults are listed.

3.0-221 Windows 7 X64 Intel Core i7-2620M @ 2.7GHz Intel HD 3000 Close to perfect. Do not run in DX9 or OpenGL for it will crash or have black-screen. Running at 720P at 30fps consistently. No hitches with game play but use DX11 for Intel HD Graphics. No slowing down during boss fights either. Also running on a laptop. cohn
3.0-235 Windows 7 x64 AMD Phenom II x6 @ 3.2GHz AMD Radeon HD 5750 Perfect, but normal settings caused weird graphical problems. The screen seemed to have purple EFB problems. Disabling EFB turned them black. Checking "Ignore Format Changes" got rid of them.
^3.0-151 Windows Vista x86 Intel Pentium P6100 @ 2GHz Intel HD graphics Works normally and fully playable but the graphics is all pixelated. To get a rid from the pixels is needed to change the resolution to 1280x720.

3.5-392 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i5-3570k nVidia GeForce 560 Ti Fullspeed, good sound with LLE, no shadows glitch makes it unplayable for me as it ruins the atmosphere of the game.
3.5-402 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.4GHz nVidia GeForce GTX 680 Fully Playable without any lags with TXAA on from the nVidia Control Panel and in 1080p! StarDave
4.0 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i5-3570K nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Works well but shadows are still missing, atmosphere of the game is ruined because of this.
4.0.1 Windows 7 X64 Intel i5-3570K @ 4.4GHz nVidia GeForce GTX 460 Game is 100% playable. Shadows do not work in 4.0.1 still. OpenGL backend AA and AF are 100% working. Game runs just fine. Set EFB copies to "Texture" to help with low resolution mirrors and keep texture accuracy to fast to give you a speedup. Kilobytez95
