Mario Party 5 is the fifth installment in the Mario Party series. The game is set in the fictional world of the Dream Depot, consisting of seven game boards. The single-player "Story" mode involves the player winning multiple games against the Koopa Kids to prevent Bowser from conquering the Dream Depot. The main multiplayer game mode consists of four characters from Mario series playing a board game, with each board having a set theme. The game also features several minigames, which are played after every set of turns. Mario Party 5 introduces the "Super Duel" mode to the franchise, which requires players to assemble and control custom made battle vehicles which can be used in combat against other machines. The game features ten playable characters, with playable debuts to the series from Toad, Boo, and Koopa Kid.

Problems

Sprite Alignment Issues

Minor sprite alignment issues occur if either Force Texture Filtering or Anisotropic Filtering are enabled. OpenGL at 1x Native Internal Resolution can also exhibit similar problems, but even more minor. Avoid these and it will be fine.

Pushy Penguins Flicker

With XFB set to anything but Real, the Pushy Penguins minigame will have flickering issues.

Enhancements

16:9 Aspect Ratio Fix

The built-in Widescreen Hack causes board clipping and buggy reflections. The following Gecko code works as a replacement, causing less issues. To avoid conflicts, make sure that Widescreen Hack is disabled while using this code.

This title has been tested on the environments listed below:

Test Entries
Revision OS CPU GPU Result Tester
3.0 Windows XP AMD Athlon 64 3600 @ 2.1GHz NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT Playable, no graphical glitch, major slowdowns throughout the game (15-30FPS). milono77
3.0 Ubuntu 11.10 Intel Core 2 Duo P7550 @ 2.26GHz NVIDIA GeForce 9400M Fully playable. Full speed most of the time, but slows down slightly in some boards and some mini-games. Some mini-games have some noticeable graphical glitches, but none that I found hinders gameplay.
3.0-95 Windows 7 AMD Phenom II x4 @ 3.2GHz NVIDIA GeForce 260 GTX Playable, no minor graphical glitch one small by the hands of the bottle ghost, no slowdowns, sound issues. Slerio
3.0-153 Windows 7 Intel Core i5-2500K @ 4GHz NVIDIA GeForce 560 Ti Playable, minor graphical glitches in menus and some mini-games, always full speed. Arezco
3.5-290 Windows 7 Intel Core i3-2350 @ 2.3GHz NVIDIA GeForce 410M Playable (always full speed), but the music temporarily run (no problem with the sound effects and voice), of 40 mini-games tested no graphical bug with OpenGL. Dratal
4.0-7840 Windows 10 Intel Core i7-3930K @ 4.2GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Runs at a solid 60FPS and has almost no issues. It does seem to throw some opcode error in netplay when the wiggler capsule is used, but the emulator does not crash. Pushy penguins minigame does not flicker anymore. Instead, on OpenGL the penguin EFB copy is scaled but has a black background, and on Direct3D the penguin EFB copy is not scaled but does not have the black background. Setting XFB to Real will fix the black background on OpenGL. Additionally, some UI elements have alignment issues above 2x native resolution, regardless of texture filtering, and the widescreen hack does not behave well. Techjar
4.0-8863 Arch Linux Intel Core i7-4712MQ @ 3.2GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M Smooth Game @ 60FPS. 3x IR HowardTheDolphin
