Muramasa: The Demon Blade is an action role playing game developed by Vanillaware and published by Marvelous Entertainment in Japan, Rising Star Games in Europe, and Ignition Entertainment in North America for the Wii. The game was released in Japan on April 9, 2009, in North America on September 8, 2009, and in Europe on November 27, 2009.

Muramasa follows the story of Kisuke, a fugitive who has lost his memory, including that of a crime that he committed and Momohime, a lithe female ronin possessed by a dark spirit. Gameplay allows players to use the Wii Remote, the Classic controller and the GameCube controller. The game allows players to use two different characters and features three difficulty levels.

Problems

Hanging

The game suffers from random hangs. Save often. Try to enable JIT recompiler.

The hangs appear to only happen when the kite ninjas are onscreen for too long. Savestate when you see them and kill them first.

Black/Inverted Textures

In some revisions, transparent textures appear black, or negative, refer issue 1521.

Texture Alignment

Texture alignment issues in the game menus can be resolved by setting the internal resolution to Auto (Multiple of 640x528)

Sword Hilts do not change color as swords are changed

Set the Texture Cache Accuracy to one click left of Fast (position 3 of 4, where 4 is Fast)

Configuration

Only configuration options for the best compatibility where they deviate from defaults are listed.

Graphics

Config Setting Notes
Internal Resolution Auto (Multiple of 640x528) Avoids texture alignment issues
Texture Cache Accuracy Position 3 Corrects coloration of sword hilts

Testing

This title has been tested on the environments listed below:

2.0 Windows XP AMD Athlon II x2 215 @ 3.45GHz nVidia GeForce 7025 Complete Momohime story (PAL version). Most time run at 46-50 FPS (Sadly I can't play OdinShere at this speed), in some menu drops to 35 FPS. You'll get 5-15 more FPS on 2.0 then on latest revisions (r7605). Get some very minor texture bugs: catfish (at title screen) and head of broken Buddha statue (at last stage) - have black squares. Game may hanging then fighting numerous enemies - if enable JIT recompiler it seem to hang less often †.fl.l).
