At the beginning of the game, when the game asks if you want to go to the Calendar Screen, choosing Yes makes the game freeze. You can avoid this by simply selecting No instead. If you need to adjust the date and time, you can do so in your computer's settings, or if that is not possible, the Advanced tab of Dolphin's configuration.
After passing or bypassing the modem prompt, the game will display the current date/time and ask if you need to go back to the Gamecube's BIOS to change the system's date/time. Pressing A at this prompt will default to No. After this, the game will proceed to creating save files for the game and show the start menu.

If the date and time is incorrect, adjust your device's date/time settings, or using the Advanced tab in the configuration panel.

Phantasy Star Online Episode I & II Trial Edition, a port of Phantasy Star Online Version 2 with enhancements and new gameplay, including new content and modes. A demo of the online RPG, SEGA's focus with this short-lived trial was primarily to test online gameplay and the offline multiplayer mode. In this trial, no single-player mode is available offline.

Emulation Information

Modem Required

The game requires a modem to play, even offline, refer issue 6038). Trying to use the Broadband Adapter will not work as the BBA was not available at the time of the game's release. Currently, Dolphin only emulates the BBA. As a result, the game will display the following message upon load:

PHANTASY STAR ONLINE EPISODE I&II
In order to play the "trial edition",
you must connect the "modem adapter."
After turning off the power, connect the modem adapter,
and restart.

This screen can be bypassed using this Action Replay code:

04194F40 4182002C

As of 5.0-12835 a patch is included with Dolphin that can be enabled via the Game Properties page.

Modem Adapter emulation was added in 5.0-21253, allowing this game to operate without modification.

Problems

Calendar

After passing or bypassing the modem prompt, the game will display the current date/time and ask if you need to go back to the Gamecube's BIOS to change the system's date/time. Pressing A at this prompt will default to No. After this, the game will proceed to creating save files for the game and show the start menu.

If the date and time is incorrect, adjust your device's date/time settings, or using the Advanced tab in the configuration panel.

Black Video

Scenes that play video appear black unless the External Frame Buffer is enabled and set to Real and Scaled EFB Copy is disabled. Setting the Internal Resolution to 1x reduces image shaking. Fixed with Hybrid XFB in 5.0-5874.
