Ratings

  • The warning not to edit the ratings in the list needs to be copied from Wii to all other lists.
  • Wii Channels need a ratings template page (Done by mbc07 - 6 September 2010).
  • All lists and games need to be gone through to change the ratings to use the template system instead of inline. (Done by Foso - 13 February 2011).
  • Revise ratings template to make sub-page ratings take effect (Done by Kolano, LobStoR and mbc07 - 29 May 2011 / 3 Jul 2011).
  • Flesh out ratings sub-pages (Done by Kolano - 3 Jul 2011)

Misc

  • Discover why Nintendo GameCube are marked for speedy deletion.
    • Accidentally marked one of the in use templates for deletion when marking unused templates. Fixed now. (Done by Kolano - 1 June 2011).
  • DSP-LLE is mentioned throughout the wiki, but there isn't a page to explain how to set it up. The procedure involved is far more complex then just enabling the option, and the only solution at present is an awkward note in pages, directing users to a forum post that itself is not very clear. Having a dedicated page on the wiki about how to setup DSP-LLE is prudent. MaJoR 18:37, 30 July 2011 (CEST)
    • I agree with this assessment. The current config/performance guides are definitely a bit lacking, and probably deserve better coverage here generally.Kolano 19:50, 30 July 2011 (CEST)
    • New DSP LLE guide created. (Done by MaJoR - 13 April 2012)
  • Work out how to better integrate Game IDs, as these seem to frequently be ignored/missed when moving pages around.

List

  • Purge "Tested on Revision" column. (Done by ThatLuciano and mbc07 - 30 April 2011 / 2 May 2011).
  • Work out means of fixing issue requiring list pages to be split into multiple templates. This is due to use of the ratings template, the current Wiki server can't handle compiling the large number of templates used on the list pages.
    • I think we might work around this by migrating most of the list page content into a bigger version of the ratings template. Then revise the ratings template to either output a detail of a requested game or a complete list of it's included games. Each list page would include the template in list mode, while each game page would include it (possibly a few times) to reference it's rating, genre, region details. I'm hoping that since each game page would only need to call the template a few times and the list list pages would display just a single template, such would enable a consolidated list for each platform. This would also ensure alignment with shared game details beyond rating.Kolano 07:39, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
    • Fixed by moving to Ratings sub-pages (Done by Kolano - 3 Jul 2011)
  • Better system for managing the GameCube games lists need to be done as finding games like Zelda could be under (The legend of / Legend of / Zelda)
    • I'm fairly sure existing naming conventions ensure this isn't the case, though we may need to do a better job of documenting them:Kolano 01:27, 2 April 2011 (CEST)
      • Page names should align with the localized English title or, when Japan-exclusive, their rōmaji transliterations
        • Unclear if there are any Euro exclusive titles that aren't accounted for by this, I seem to recall a French only game or two.
        • On the lists I believe we should remove the "aka 'foreign game title'" since we are focusing more towards the American titles. ThatLuciano 07:56, 28 April 2011 (CEST)
          • I don't think we should be "focusing" toward American titles. I'd much prefer if we fleshed the AKAs out more/integrated such into game pages to better cover that the titles have multiple names. Not doing so makes it difficult for non-US wiki users to find info on titles relevant to them, as the names they may be familiar with can significantly deviate from the US titles (i.e. Spirits & Spells vs Castleween).Kolano 15:53, 28 April 2011 (CEST)
      • Page names should start with "The" if the title does
      • List entries should move "The" to the end of their title section (i.e. "The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker" becomes "Legend of Zelda, The: The Wind Waker")
      • "The" policy changed to the above, and set throughout the wiki. "Aka"s remain, but generally limited. Seems settled. Moved to archive by MaJoR 19 July 2012.

Config

  • Config template has an excess of "}" in Display section. (Done by Kolano - 7 March 2011).
  • Config template needs |hletheipl revised to |skipbios. (Done by Kolano - 8 March 2011).
  • |graphicsplugin=OpenGL, DX9 or DX11 must be changed to the new |gfxbackend=OpenGL, DX9 or DX11 because Dolphin plugins has been mergered into the main executable. (Done by Foso - 31 March 2011).
  • |safetexturecache=Safe, Normal or Fast must be changed to the new |accuratetexturecache=Safe, Normal or Fast. (Done by Foso - 31 March 2011).
  • |dspplugin=HLE, LLE recompiler or LLE interpreter must be changed to the new |dspengine=HLE, LLE recompiler or LLE interpreter because Dolphin plugins has been mergered into the main executable. (Done by Foso - 1 April 2011).
  • |recompiler=JIT, JITiL or interpreter must be changed to the new |cpuengine=JIT, JITiL or interpreter.(Done by Foso - 4 April 2011).
  • Realign options with recent Dolphin config update r7486. (Done by mbc07 - 30 April 2011).
    • Changed the "Enable" button for EFB and XFB to "Disable".
    • EFB Scale => Internal Resolution
    • Load Native Mipmaps => Fast mipmaps
    • EFB Scaled Copy => Scaled EFB copy
    • Pixel Lighting => Per-Pixel Lighting
    • Pixel Depth => Per-Pixel Depth
    • Force Bi/Trilinear Filtering => Force Texture Filtering
    • Enable CPU Access => Skip EFB Access from CPU
    • Emulate format changes => Ignore Format Changes
    • Disable Dest. Alpha Pass => Skip Dest. Alpha Pass
    • Enable Display List Caching => Cache Display Lists
  • Clean up config entries post Config template revisions to include an up to date list of parameters. Recent Config template changed strings to be as is in current Dolphin revision:
    • Regularly handled by Kolano. Moved to archive. (MaJoR - 19 July 2012)
  • DSP-LLE is recommended and not recommended at random throughout numerous pages with sound issues. Often, this is because many games have only minor sound problems with DSP-HLE, and it may not be worth it to take the performance hit. However, if the Config is setup to reflect a best possible set of options ignoring performance, then LLE should be listed. Should it be changed? MaJoR 18:37, 30 July 2011 (CEST)
    • The current goal for the config sections is to provide settings that will provide problem free emulation. Performance/graphics improvements are not relevant as typically such are covered generically in the performance/config guides (though each of those could use updates). Each suggested config should also include a note regarding why such is being suggested. So the minor issues should be listed besides the suggestion to use LLE, but such should be kept brief with longer description in the Problems section. I'd like to avoid statements like "slower machines should user HLE" in the Problems section though, as such is an inexact statement and likely to skew over time (i.e. today's fast machine is tomorrow's slow one). I presume an intelligent user when presented with the specific issues addressed by use of LLE should be able to decide if it's worth taking the performance hit themselves.Kolano 19:50, 30 July 2011 (CEST)
    • Answered and settled. Not much can be done about it. Moved to archive. (MaJoR - 19 July 2012)

Navigation Templates

  • Consider merging all templates in only one, separated in subpages (such as Template:Navigation/Zelda, Template:Navigation/Pikmin, Template:Navigation/Mortal Kombat), and add a documentation and link for subpages on the main template. (Done by mbc07 - 18 May 2011).
  • Revised German variables to English (Done by mbc07 - July 2012)
  • Correct handling so final list item isn't displayed on it's own line. This is currently addressed by including a &nbsp; as a final entry, but that's a less than ideal solution. Corrected this in a better way after migrating to the new Template:Navbox (Done by mbc07 - July 2012)
  • Entries listed in chronological order. (already done)
    • Template of the entries: <Title> (<Year>)
  • Alternately, we might consider a format where Wii and GameCube titles occupy separate rows. Not sure if/how we'd handle Wii sub-categories (i.e. WiiWare, etc.). (Done by mbc07 - July 2012)
  • Entries should be separated with a "&nbsp;| " (This may be a mute point, if a separate entry template is implemented) Corrected this in a better way after migrating to the new Template:Navbox (Done by mbc07 - July 2012)
  • Query regarding recent navigation migration to sub-pages: Is this functional in any way? It's OK, Templates aren't part of the main namespace, so they have this enabled by default.

Performance Guide

  • Update Performance guide to align with 3.0 release.
    • Done. Moved to archive by MaJoR 19 July 2012.

To Do List

  • Split "Completed" section entries done more than one month ago in an separate page to maintain organization. (Done by mbc07 - 3 April 2011).

Infobox

  • Media cleanup because media can be presumed from category (Done by Foso - 30 March 2011).
  • Purge Non-Dolphin emulated platforms from platform entries, or completely remove platforms because platform can be presumed from category (Done by Foso - 31 March 2011).
  • Get rid of the cursed "Gamepad" generic rubbish that is spread throughout the wiki! I've been wittling away at it for a while, but it's a big job. Sure would be nice if a script could change all the GameCube "Gamepad" entries to "GameCube Controller"... (Done by MaJoR - 2 September 2012)

DX9 removal

Well, DX9 was gone... We need to go through all pages and clean DX9-related things. Unsure if we can set some scripts... mbc07 (talk) (fixed a while ago and just kind of forgotten)

Misc

  • Correct maximum file size indicator on upload page. It says 2MB files are accepted, but 1MB seems to be the actual cut-off. (fixed after moving to the new server)

Fix Pictures Lost in the Move

A number of images were lost during the move. I'll list them all here. (Fixed by Delroth magic - November 8 2012)

Hrm, this actually only seems partially fixed. The newest versions seem restored, but any prior versions are still lost. Not that critical an issue, but the image pages end up with odd errors on them, refer File:Doraemon-_Minna_de_Asobō!_Minidorando.jpg.Kolano (talk) 11:06, 8 November 2012 (CET)
Apparently The bot only pulled the latest version for all files. ALL files that have an old version show errors like that. Maybe we should purge the old versions? And welcome back Kolano, you've been missed. - MaJoR (talk) 12:08, 8 November 2012 (CET)

List

  • Add orphaned or games not in the lists into the list pages for: Wii, WiiWare, Virtual Console. (Done by Kolano - October 2012)

Config Template

  • Clean blank entries and add only the used ones. (Done by Kolano)

General Discussions Cleanup

The General Discussions page has a number of now dated discussions on it. We should likely create an archive page, and migrate the now irrelevant discussions there. (Done by mbc07 - November 2012)

Harden User Registration

The problem of spam bots creating accounts and generating junk pages seems to be escalating. There have been 13 of them today (Sep 19th,2012), 8 the day before, and 6 the day before that. It would be good if we could harden the user registration process somewhat to better keep them out. (Done by Parlane during the site move. Added reCaptcha. - November 2012)

Videos

  • Better embed gameplay videos, generate template to embed video windows for Youtube (and other video sites?) (Done by Parlane? - November 2012)
  • Convert existing Gameplay Video section links to new YouTube or EmbedVideo templates -Kolano 20:04, 2 August 2012 (CEST) (Done by Kolano, though I may have missed a few due to shoddy search)
Yea you missed some. I've seen a few here and there. - MaJoR (talk) 07:40, 11 November 2012 (CET)

Categories

  • Add developer/publisher categories
  • Add more complete set of genre categories
    • Replace genres with genre category links

Global Problems integration

I finished writing the global problems template, and we need to port it to game pages. It differs a bit from platform to platform, but a search-and-replace should do the job:

In all pages of Category:NES games, search for

== Problems ==

and replace with

<!-- To edit the NES VC Global Problems, navigate to "Template:GlobalProblems/NES" (copy to the search box) -->
{{GlobalProblems|NES}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:SNES games, search for

== Problems ==

and replace with

<!-- To edit the SNES VC Global Problems, navigate to "Template:GlobalProblems/Super Nintendo" (copy to the search box) -->
{{GlobalProblems|SNES}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:Nintendo 64 games, search for

== Problems ==

and replace with

<!-- To edit the N64 VC Global Problems, navigate to "Template:GlobalProblems/Nintendo 64" (copy to the search box) -->
{{GlobalProblems|N64}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:Sega Master System games, search for

== Problems ==

and replace with

<!-- To edit the Master System VC Global Problems, navigate to "Template:GlobalProblems/Master System" (copy to the search box) -->
{{GlobalProblems|SMS}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:Sega Genesis games, search for

== Problems ==

and replace with

{{GlobalProblems|TG16}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:Neo Geo games, search for

and replace with

<!-- To edit the Neo Geo VC Global Problems, navigate to "Template:GlobalProblems/Neo Geo" (copy to the search box) -->
{{GlobalProblems|NG}}

== Problems ==

In all pages of Category:Commodore 64 games, search for

Revision Template Updates

  • Branch builds, such as "3.0-712 Network branch" are displayed as "r3.0-712 Network branch" by the current revision template.
  • Revision template no longer links back to changes for that version since the transition to GIT. I think correcting such will require a build to GIT ID mapping established.

Navigation Templates

  • The template handle series it doesn't address by providing a notice to update the relevant navigation template.
    • The template parameter be Title rather than Series based. Such could allow a default template to be included on every page (i.e. outputting nothing if there was no relevant navigation). Unfortunately that's not compatible with my prior suggestion, so we probably need some further discussion.
    • This may be a bit easier to handle now that the infobox outputs series categories. So a page including a series category and not having a aligned nav template would indicate an issue. Would need to see how easy it is to parse out those details though.
  • Make the navigation template entry-based (like the ratings template).
    • This will need to consider the total count of templates used within this template. As we want to avoid hitting the too many templates issues seen in list pages.
