Super Metroid (スーパーメトロイド Sūpā Metoroido), also known as Metroid 3, is an action-adventure video game and the third game in the Metroid series. It was designed by Nintendo Research & Development 1, programmed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System video game console. It was released on the Virtual Console for all territories at 20th anniversary of the North American Metroid release.

Super Metroid continues the same style of gameplay as its predecessor, but with radical improvements. Samus still explores an open world non-linear environment, finding powerups to open more areas and proceed through the game. But Super Metroid enhances this with a map system, a complex introduction technique, a proper save system, more energy tanks, and other gameplay tweaks; fixing all of the main problems of the original while expanding its strengths. It was released with universal critical acclaim, but due to poor timing of its release it had unimpressive sales. Nintendo sat on the franchise for eight years, till the release of Metroid Prime on the GameCube.

Testing

This title has been tested on the environments listed below:

Test Entries
Revision OS CPU GPU Result Tester
3.0 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 Highly inconsistent framerate, bounces between double speed and normal speed depending on what's on screen. Adjusting the framerate options does not fix it, neither does any option I've tried. Plus, the framerate fluctuations result in all kinds of audio distortions. Saves do not stay after closing Dolphin (global issue). I.E. it's a mess. But it runs at least. MaJoR
3.5-268 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 Same as before. MaJoR
