* The base game comes on two discs, making it the only two disc wii game we know of. And bizzarely the discs are apparently 4.1GB and 1.6GB in size, so they could have used a dual layer disc and didn't. A dual layer disc is cheaper than two discs so... *shrug*. The expansion probably uses the base game's play disc and will probably be a single disc. But the All in One is almost definitely two discs, and probably dual layer as well.

* The game comes with IOS59 and requires it to operate. Since IOS58 is the big USB/SD card update that allows NTFS drives and faster SD speeds, it is probably that IOS59 is an update that allows the game to install to SD card and run from SD card in the manner that it does. Because of all of this and how recent it is (2012), it is very unlikely that Dolphin will work with this game, as the testing entry shows.

Soooooo. I have no idea how to handle this. This is like nothing else on the wiki! WIkipedia puts everything onto a single "Dragon Quest X" page, and that might be a good route for us... what do you guys think? - [[User:MaJoR|MaJoR]] ([[User talk:MaJoR|talk]]) 06:45, 24 February 2015 (CET)

Ooookay, this was brought up in the channel and I've been doing some research on it, and Dragon Quest X is a VERY weird game! Apparently they did all kinds of nutty things to get a modern MMO to work on the wii...

  • The base game comes on two discs, making it the only two disc wii game we know of. And bizarrely the discs are apparently 4.1GB and 1.6GB in size, so they could have used a dual layer disc and didn't. A dual layer disc is cheaper than two discs so... *shrug*. The expansion probably uses the base game's play disc and will probably be a single disc. But the All in One is almost definitely two discs, and probably dual layer as well.
  • It uses a totally proprietary online system that allows play between Wii, Wii U, and Windows. And apparently it is still online, though IP blocked so only japanese players can play.
  • The game apparently installs to the SD card or an HDD, and requires 16GB or more of storage space. And it can download more data through the internet from there. It is unknown whether v1 can be updated to v2, or if the expansion disc is required for v2. Since there is a separate retail package for v2 and the all in one... probably not.
  • A second expansion is coming out in April of this year.
  • The game comes with IOS59 and requires it to operate. Since IOS58 is the big USB/SD card update that allows NTFS drives and faster SD speeds, it is probable that IOS59 is an update that allows the game to install to SD card and run from SD card in the manner that it does. No one in -dev knew anything about IOS59 when I asked. Because of all of this and how recent it is (2012), it is very unlikely that Dolphin will work with this game, as the testing entry shows.
