Regions

The handler that generates region categories needs to be updated to account for some of the recently added regions (Netherlands / Scandinavia, perhaps some others). I thought it may be in the Inforbox_VG template, but it's not; and I can't work out where it's located. Kolano (talk) 04:33, 12 June 2017 (CEST)

OK, it's in Vgrelease, and based around the indicated release dates. Should probably add an additional handler to Inforbox_VG to handle it for GameIDs. Kolano (talk) 08:40, 12 June 2017 (CEST)

Not really clear on folks opinions of the shortened GameIDs. Other outside sites seem to use them, but not clear they have much relevance to Dolphin which doesn't, so I'd lean to just purging them out (we need to check if the 6char GameIDs are present first though). Kolano (talk) 06:09, 8 January 2016 (CET)

Since it seems all VC titles on a platform tend to use the same publisher code (i.e. it's associated with the platform not the title) this is likely easier to address than it first seemed. In any case, we need to go through each of these and ensure a 6char GameID is established for each. Kolano (talk) 11:23, 9 January 2016 (CET)

Technically, none of those are wrong! Anything from the wii shop doesn't include a publisher code, technically. But there *is* a separate publisher code, and Dolphin combines them. But the publisher code is based on the platform, not the actual publisher... There has been a lot of debate as to which method is correct. Come into the channel and talk it over with the devs! - MayImilae (talk) 23:50, 19 January 2016 (CET)
I wasn't claiming them to be wrong, just pointless when it comes to Dolphin since Dolphin doesn't identify them by those IDs. Really I just want consistency one way or the other. So we either need to purge those out, or ensure a 4char ID is established across WiiWare/VC titles. Kolano (talk) 00:24, 20 January 2016 (CET)
As I recall the 6 character ones are from Dolphin, and 4 character ones are from the GameTDB import? Since it what is arguably the correct method. Seriously, the way Dolphin does it is weird, according to the devs. But no one really cares. :P - MayImilae (talk) 12:53, 20 January 2016 (CET)

If you were going to get really technical, not even retail titles use the publisher ID for identification. The product code you see on GameCube game covers for example only contains the 4 character ID prefix (here's Super Mario Sunshine's cover where you can see the prefix GMSE used above the barcode). Digital Wii titles should always contain the publisher code in the metadata, but accessing the game's files on the NUS is done with just the prefix, which seems to be where the confusion comes from. In any case, when you right click a digital Wii game in Dolphin and hit the "Wiki" option, it ends up using the six character ID to try and find the page, so not only are the four character IDs here inconsistent with the other IDs on the wiki, they don't actually work with Dolphin's current functionality. - Xerxes (talk) 18:27, 9 October 2017 (CEST)
