Non-Required

There are a a lot of titles under Category:Wii_Balance_Board_(Input_supported), I'd guess a few more than the current three that use this template require the Wii Balance Board. It would appropriate to revise this template to handle the non-required cases as well, so we'd have a generic "Emulation Info" section everywhere the Wii Balance Board is provided. We can create a new template simply made up of loading that template and do regex to find'n'replace the word "Required" into something else, you can see code example from Template:Action Replay. Lucario (talk) 05:38, 4 January 2018 (CET)
OK, I like not having a completely independently defined template, but at the same time this seems a bit fragile. Might want to generate a category if the regex fails to make it easier to pay attention to that. Kolano (talk) 07:55, 4 January 2018 (CET)
Might be nicer to just have one template, and add a |Required to the end of the template call for pages that need the balance board, and not have that on the other pages. Then just do an {{#if:{{{1|}}} or an #ifeq wrapped around the text. That would consolidate changes to the one template. - Xerxes (talk) 16:29, 4 January 2018 (CET)
If the phrase in template is ever changing then yes, just have one template is better, as the regex would either no longer able to find the matching phrase, or will not relay changes because it's replacing to the end of line. On the other hand two templates are nice, they will segregate required/non-required games into their own list. Not sure if that matters though. Lucario (talk) 21:19, 4 January 2018 (CET)
Nah one template should be fine. Just generate a category for pages that require a balance board and pages that don't from within the template and put that in an #if as well. Categories should be easier to work with than a template finding DPL anyways since you can also access categories with DPL the same way. - Xerxes (talk) 21:34, 4 January 2018 (CET)
Okay, that'd be better then.
Well, after looking at the name "Used By" section I feel bad about renaming it into something else or having another list meant to segregate required vs non-required. I understand it's totally possible and better maintained if there's a single template to work on but I can see advantages with having two templates still. However again, idk if having list of required and non-required even matters. Lucario (talk) 22:33, 4 January 2018 (CET)
If we're going to really nitpick, {{Problems/Wii Balance Board Required}} does look nicer than {{Problems/Wii Balance Board|Required}} on the page source too. I just want to minimize the chance of someone editing the balance board required template some day and in the process breaking a hundred pages for games that don't even require the balance board. - Xerxes (talk) 06:54, 5 January 2018 (CET)
