Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is an action-adventure stealth game, developed and published by Ubisoft. Chaos Theory is the third game in the Splinter Cell series endorsed by writer Tom Clancy.

Emulation Information

16:9

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory has a native 16:9 display option, but it requires enabling it in its internal options and setting Dolphin's Aspect Ratio graphics setting to "Auto". Using the widescreen hack with this title is not recommended.

Problems

Hang on Boot

In Single Core, the game will not boot. Using Dualcore with SyncGPU off allows the game to work properly.

Displace International Mission

There is a game-breaking bug in the Displace International mission. After leaving the server room and heading onto the elevator to the upper floors, upon loading the section nothing can be seen. Fixed sometime before 5.0-78.

Enhancements

Texture Errors

Texture errors with walls can be avoided by making sure "Force Texture Filtering" is set to off.

Configuration

No configuration changes are known to affect compatibility for this title.

Testing

This title has been tested on the environments listed below:

Test Entries
Revision OS CPU GPU Result Tester
4.0-5416 Windows 7 Intel Core i3-3220 @ 3.3GHz NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 Playable, but with minor problems. The loading screens are unemulated it seems due to only displaying a black screen unless it's a settings issue, but I don't think it is since I tested OpenGL and Direct3D. Don't know about the software rasterizer though. In game seems a bit darker than on a real console, and there is some very minor texture errors like walls showing up at open entrances in some places, but if you're playing this for the first time, it could make you think that you're stuck. Has slowdown as well in places with heavy effects like bright lights. A better CPU than mines should have no trouble though I think. Only played the first level. Yugix
4.0-7115 Windows 8.1 AMD Phenom X6 1055T @ 3.5GHz AMD Radeon HD 6850 Runs well, texture errors with walls can be avoided by making sure "Texture Filtering" is set to off (only tested OpenGL backend though). Unfortunately, there is a game-breaking bug in the Displace International mission. After leaving the server room and heading onto the elevator to the upper floors, upon loading the section you are unable to see anything. Also occurs on Direct3D backend and was unable to find settings which solved the problem. UPDATE: Same bug happens when you get on the elevator in the final mission. Seems like the error consistently occurs when an elevator is used as the stopgap between different sections of a level. Metroid_III
