== Missing Banners (Compatibility List) ==
I dumbed the banners for '''[[2 Games in 1: The Incredibles / Finding Nemo]]''', '''[[2 Games in 1: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie / Battle for Bikini Bottom]]''' and '''[[2 Games in 1: The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie / Tak 2: The Staff of Dreams]]''' (they look like exactly the same), because they are missing from the homepage. Could you do me a favor? Can I upload it to the wiki files, you add them to the website and after that delete them off the wiki files section? That would be a relief for me. - [[User:Kimishima|Kimishima]] ([[User talk:Kimishima|talk]]) 18:47, 20 July 2018 (CEST)
: I've since forgotten the specific details, but I believe banner uploads to the main compatibility guide are handled via uploads that occur directly from the emulator (presuming you accepted the prompt about data uploads on it's initial install). [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 22:01, 20 July 2018 (CEST)
:: Okay, thanks! I accepted the prompt, so I shall wait and see. Do I need to have the game in my games list until then? [[User:Kimishima|Kimishima]] ([[User talk:Kimishima|talk]]) 22:52, 20 July 2018 (CEST)
::: I misremembered. For a while we had distributed a tool to allow uploading all the banners in your local cache, but it's apparently no longer supported. Go ahead and upload them here, and hopefully we can get them to the right hands to integrate them into the main site. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 23:44, 20 July 2018 (CEST)
:::: Okay, it's uploaded. Thank you very much for your help! [[User:Kimishima|Kimishima]] ([[User talk:Kimishima|talk]]) 09:31, 21 July 2018 (CEST)
== Adding regional names, Redirects and Streamlining names with <nowiki>'''''X'''''</nowiki> ==
I have added some redirects, Japanese and European names to the wikis and [[Gamecube]] pages and changed <nowiki>''X'', '''X''' (etc.) to '''''X'''''</nowiki>. I did that for Resident Evil, all gamecube games #, A and B. I saw on the Recent changes page that I probably cause a lot of trouble (number of edits). Should I revoke my changes (or most of them since some were corrections)? Should I go ahead and check C to Z? I'm feeling bad, because I have the feeling that I do things that I'm not allowed to. [[User:Kimishima|Kimishima]] ([[User talk:Kimishima|talk]]) 13:11, 24 July 2018 (CEST)
:Though some discussion of any larger scale changes you plan to make is good.  Don't generally be worried about the number of edits.  Most everything you've done looks fine. The quoting standardization is good, and frequently gets overlooked since it's not that visible. We are also happy to see better completion of non-US titles. One related thing:
:*[[Resident Evil Zero Trial Edition]] should probably be purged out since there was no US/EU release, just leaving the Biohazard naming behind.
:[[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 14:46, 24 July 2018 (CEST)
::Okay, thank you! How do I purge/delete/rename entire pages? The redirect will be unnecessary and the page would be renamed to Biohazard [...]. [[User:Kimishima|Kimishima]] ([[User talk:Kimishima|talk]]) 15:26, 24 July 2018 (CEST)

::::Alright. I ask you if there is something I think should be done (if I can't do it myself). == Autoconfirmed Users ==
Are you aware that new users aren't able to edit the wiki at all right now? I was reading on the forums that the permission was set to take three days, then let new users edit, but according to [https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-editing-dolphin-s-wiki?pid=452120 multiple people on the forums] it's not working properly. There's reports of existing, old accounts used to make edits before not working either. I know that [[User:MayImilae]] said she'd take a look at it, but I thought I should tell you as well in case you didn't know. - [[User:Xerxes|Xerxes]] ([[User talk:Xerxes|talk]]) 21:02, 6 September 2017 (CEST)
: Yeah, an unfortunate outcome from a particularly annoying spammer; who would happily manually work around captcha to continue spamming us. It's been a while now, so hopefully we can scale back the restrictions soon. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 05:06, 12 January 2018 (CET)

== Triforce rating ==
Didn't mean to redo those. I [https://wiki.dolphin-emu.org/index.php?title=Blank_Game_Page&diff=150988&oldid=145230 always] did it like that because it's a weird template formatting different from the others, it's been like that on [[Blank Game Page]] for years now. I didn't mean to come off as being petty... Should probably change that on the blank game page. - [[User:Xerxes|Xerxes]] ([[User talk:Xerxes|talk]]) 07:52, 18 March 2019 (CET)
I see that you think that Triforce games should be rated 1 star because they are broken on master. While that is technically true, the same can be said about any other game not for Wii/GC. But just like any other console which is not Wii/GC, the master branch of Dolphin doesn't emulate the Triforce and because the wiki is inline with master I think they shouldn't be rated at all.[[User:Miksel12|Miksel12]] ([[User talk:Miksel12|talk]]) 13:51, 30 Dec 2020 (CEST)

: This has already been discussed in the past, and is partially why the ratings for all those pages are locked. We understand it's been a long time since any progress has been made on Triforce emulation. The Triforce pages should probably be purged from the wiki, but folks have wanted to preserve them since Dolphin provides the only current path to emulate these titles, even if no longer supported on master. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 08:03, 31 December 2020 (CET)

::I don't think the pages should be purged, like you said, Dolphin is the only way to emulate them. But by rating them against master, one would assume Triforce is emulated on master and it gives a wrong impression of which games are actually 'broken' (which are 5 games) and which games are from a machine not emulated (which are 15 games). So I would give the Triforce games 0 stars and keep the pages with a link to the Triforce branch.[[User:Miksel12|Miksel12]] ([[User talk:Miksel12|talk]]) 14:15, 31 Dec 2020 (CEST)

* [[Smashing Drive (Nov 5, 2001)]]
* [[Rayman Arena (March 12, 2002)]]
* [[ATV Quad Power Racing 2 (Oct 11, 2002)]]
I don't know if these redirs are used anymore, they were listed in the [[RELSAB]], their parentheses have been moved out to allow DPL linksto to check these for their gameid. [[User:Lucario|Lucario]] ([[User talk:Lucario|talk]]) 08:24, 28 January 2022 (CET)

: I've restored it, though I think we had purged it as it was overly complicated and wasn't getting used in the same way after various GameID clean-up and completion of other page collections. It definitely needs better documentation. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 09:43, 29 January 2022 (CET)

: Also I think we had prefered for the [[RELSAB]] ID to not show up on most of the those titles, as it's only used for those pre-release versions and isn't a unique identifier. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 09:48, 29 January 2022 (CET)

:: Thank you, the documentation was also deleted so the template page appears to be lacking without it, maybe if you restore that also (edit: Thank you mbc07) Maybe you're right, it might not be needed anymore. It was a simple tool easy to flag what needs to be deleted but seems lately more things require discussion. I don't know, it might be useful again someday.

:: [[RELSAB]] on those game pages aren't wrong when it was indeed used during their beta stages. I understand it is likely a generic id used across several places so it can sound unappealing.

:: It's not used on [[Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut]] because we've got the [[Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut (Beta)|beta page]] for it so we have few options:
* Just unlink those other games from [[RELSAB]]
* Have own beta pages for pre-releases of those other games
* Merge beta information back to the released version
:: Or have those redirects again to stop shared gameid DPL from looking for those games again but do we want to have dates in the parentheses as the titles of the pre-released versions? Sounds like it'll create a fragmentation problem when we run across multiple betas of same game.[[User:Lucario|Lucario]] ([[User talk:Lucario|talk]]) 11:35, 29 January 2022 (CET)

: Yeah, it's not necessary. It's a remnant of a poorly handled search and replace when the new Problems template was published. I keep meaning to search an replace to fix it, but it's such a minor thing I haven't bothered. [[User:Kolano|Kolano]] ([[User talk:Kolano|talk]]) 08:26, 19 March 2019 (CET)

Regions and Games

1. Should we add regional names to the Gamecube game list if there are differences? (English, Japanese, French...)

Generally yes, though we may want avoid doing so in the case of exact translations to avoid listing 5+ EU translations of each name. Kolano (talk) 17:13, 8 August 2018 (CEST)
Okay (talk) 19:28, 8 August 2018 (CEST)

2. Should we all regional names to the wiki pages if there are differences?

Again, generally yes, but be cautious of listing exact translations. Kolano (talk) 17:13, 8 August 2018 (CEST)
Alright (talk) 19:28, 8 August 2018 (CEST)

3. Should we add regions like French (FR), Spanish(SP) etc. to the 'vgrelease' list for possible different release dates and country exclusive releases?

Generally we just list the earliest EU release date, but may want to consider listing more dates when there are differences. Would be good to understand how frequently such comes up. Such would also likely require rewriting how some of the vgrelease template logic works. Kolano (talk) 17:13, 8 August 2018 (CEST)
I will contact you when I have a complete list of dates. (talk) 19:28, 8 August 2018 (CEST)
It's really easy to add/remove regions from {{vgrelease}} so I added SP/FR for you. It doesn't affect any current pages to add them either. You can see it in the infobox on Dummy Page if you want. We might also want to do a generic year (and month) under "EU" alongside those and NL with more regions but idk it seems kind of pointless. That requires knowing separate release dates for French and Spanish releases though and I think only GameTDB has dates for particular regions in Europe? GameFAQS just says EU as far as I remember. - Xerxes (talk) 09:57, 11 August 2018 (CEST)
Aren't there also German specific releases (and perhaps a few others)? Kolano (talk) 09:59, 11 August 2018 (CEST)
Yeah we could match the regions in GameIDs with the regions in vgrelease, but that would take a long time to sort through all the IDs again and I'm lazy. - Xerxes (talk) 10:05, 11 August 2018 (CEST)
I added Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, and Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau too. - Xerxes (talk) 10:29, 11 August 2018 (CEST)
Thank you for the effort! There are lots of old gaming magazines out there with release dates of the Gamecube era. I know some German websites I can search on. I can figure out other countries thanks to google translator. I figured some Korean and Japanese dates out with that method. One '2 in 1 Games' collection for the Gamecube is a German exclusive (The one with only one GID). Kimishima (talk) 15:49, 11 August 2018 (CEST)
It should be possible to use some dpl rules to quickly generate lists of titles with region specific GameIDs (refer the "Samples" column on the GameIDs page), which should allow titles needing edits to be quickly identified; though finding all the appropriate dates may still be a pain. 18:00, 11 August 2018 (CEST)

I have a small question. I saw you changed my GE edits to DE, which I am personally all for. Why do GE and DE redirect you to the German page? As on the Dummy Page. Seems funny to me. EDIT: DE made problems on 2 Games in 1: The Incredibles / Finding Nemo: maximum number of loops has been performed.

Looks like I had missed a few GE references that needed to be revised to DE. Kolano (talk) 00:37, 14 August 2018 (CEST)

4. Should we alter the 'CompatListHeader' to include French (FR), Spanish (SP), Swedish (SW), Netherlandish (NE), Italian (IT) and German (GE)?

I think there are likely a few others to include, refer GameIDs#Region_Code, but I also think Dolphin generally lumps many of those under it's EU label (i.e. I believe they get an EU flag banner in the UI). This wouldn't just be about updating that template as we'd also need to break things out differently in the Region column of each title list, which will be significant effort that we may want to avoid. Kolano (talk) 17:13, 8 August 2018 (CEST)
Dolphin separates them. A German game will show a German flag, French games the French flag etc. (with [these] codes. Here a picture (Uploaded to Twitter) Kimishima (talk) 19:28, 8 August 2018 (CEST)

I don't think the pages should be purged, like you said, Dolphin is the only way to emulate them. But by rating them against master, one would assume Triforce is emulated on master and it gives a wrong impression of which games are actually 'broken' (which are 5 games) and which games are from a machine not emulated (which are 15 games). So I would give the Triforce games 0 stars and keep the pages with a link to the Triforce branch.Miksel12 (talk) 14:15, 31 Dec 2020 (CEST)

Template:Delete

Can you restore it? Why was it deleted? Lucario (talk) 08:19, 28 January 2022 (CET)

I don't know if these redirs are used anymore, they were listed in the RELSAB, their parentheses have been moved out to allow DPL linksto to check these for their gameid. Lucario (talk) 08:24, 28 January 2022 (CET)

I've restored it, though I think we had purged it as it was overly complicated and wasn't getting used in the same way after various GameID clean-up and completion of other page collections. It definitely needs better documentation. Kolano (talk) 09:43, 29 January 2022 (CET)
Also I think we had prefered for the RELSAB ID to not show up on most of the those titles, as it's only used for those pre-release versions and isn't a unique identifier. Kolano (talk) 09:48, 29 January 2022 (CET)
Thank you, the documentation was also deleted so the template page appears to be lacking without it, maybe if you restore that also (edit: Thank you mbc07) Maybe you're right, it might not be needed anymore. It was a simple tool easy to flag what needs to be deleted but seems lately more things require discussion. I don't know, it might be useful again someday.
RELSAB on those game pages aren't wrong when it was indeed used during their beta stages. I understand it is likely a generic id used across several places so it can sound unappealing.
It's not used on Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut because we've got the beta page for it so we have few options:
  • Just unlink those other games from RELSAB
  • Have own beta pages for pre-releases of those other games
  • Merge beta information back to the released version
Or have those redirects again to stop shared gameid DPL from looking for those games again but do we want to have dates in the parentheses as the titles of the pre-released versions? Sounds like it'll create a fragmentation problem when we run across multiple betas of same game.Lucario (talk) 11:35, 29 January 2022 (CET)

Wishing you great times onwards

Before I take a very long break from this wiki due to not feeling welcome at all, I just wanted to say that you were the nicer one among the long-timers on this wiki. I wish you the best times ahead. DandelionSprout (talk) 10:26, 19 March 2024 (CET)
