Ideally, the functionality of this channel inside Dolphin would allow for download of Virtual Console Arcade games, WiiWare and Wii Channels directly to the [[Wii Menu]]. Currently this is impossible to achieve, since Dolphin triggers Nintendo's server protection; if the servers detect any anomalies in the system connected to it, it will automatically disconnect said system and ban it from further connections.
As of {{revision|5.0-2870}} it is possible to not only download demos, but also to buy Wii points and purchase titles. If using a real Wii NAND, that Wii will be able to download those titles as purchases are tied to the console ID. Titles downloaded are installed directly to your system menu.

When attempting to start the Wii Shop Channel, a dialog box appears: "An Internet connection is required. Configure Internet settings now?". Selecting "Quit" removes the dialog box, but does not exit the channel. Selecting "Enter Settings" redirects the user to an unloadable page, inside the "Wii Settings". Even though the Wii Menu music is playing in the background, and the FPS, VPS and Speed are unaffected, the emulator has gotten hung up and requires a restart of the [[Wii Menu]] to clear.
The Shop makes no attempt to download and install new title contents, which results in broken channels after an update. Fixed in {{revision|5.0-2874}}.

The Wii Shop Channel allows users to download Virtual Console games, WiiWare, and Wii Channels directly to the Wii. Nintendo uses Wii Points as the currency within the channel, and many downloads require payment.

As of 5.0-2870 it is possible to not only download demos, but also to buy Wii points and purchase titles. If using a real Wii NAND, that Wii will be able to download those titles as purchases are tied to the console ID. Titles downloaded are installed directly to your system menu.

Emulation Information

Network Certificates Required

Wii Shop Channel has functionalities that requires proper network certificates extracted from an IOS to work. Refer to the network guide for more information.

Updates

The Wii Shop Channel requires the latest version of itself to be installed. Simply do an online update to get the latest version. Note: the System Menu and its System Menu IOS must be installed for online updates to work.

Accounts

  • Keys from a real Wii are required. Nintendo's servers (and more specifically IAS, the Identity Authentication Services) check for the Wii's identity and will deny access to the shop if the device certificate is not signed by Nintendo.
  • If the device ID and certificate mismatch, Nintendo will not allow accessing the shop.
  • If your console is already registered, error 205906 will be shown on start. This is non fatal and as long as Dolphin's Wii country setting matches with the original account's, it is possible to simply dismiss the error and access the main page.

Proper NAND

The Wii Shop Channel is a bit picky about installed titles in the NAND, so a proper NAND is required.

Problems

Post-Install Error 206674

Error 206674 will appear before a title installation completes for the first time. This is due to a title caching issue in Dolphin and is non-fatal. The cache issue is partially fixed in 5.0-3004, enough for this error to disappear and downloading to SD card to work.

Existing Title Updates

The Shop makes no attempt to download and install new title contents, which results in broken channels after an update. Fixed in 5.0-2874.

Ticket Decryption

The Wii Shop channel uses console specific ("personalized") tickets, which Dolphin currently does not handle correctly. This results in contents being decrypted incorrectly. Fixed in 5.0-2862.

Configuration

This channel does not need non-default settings to run properly.
