Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen (零〜月蝕の仮面〜, Zero: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse), known in the states as Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is a survival-horror video game developed by Tecmo and Grasshopper Manufacture and published only in Japan by Nintendo for the Wii video game console. It is the fourth game in the Fatal Frame series and the first of two on the Wii, followed by a re-release of Fatal Frame II.
Emulation Information
Incorrectly Patched Disc Image Not Starting
If you have patched the game with a patch such as the English translation patch, the game's region code might be incorrect, depending on how you've applied the patch. If that is the case, Dolphin 4.0-8741 and newer will be unable to start the game, getting stuck on a black screen. The region code can be corrected by opening the ISO file in a hex editor and changing the byte at 0x4E003 to 00.
Corrupt Font With English Patch
When using the English patch, certain text may appear distorted or glitched. To fix this, make sure GPU Texture Decoding is enabled. Anisotropic filtering is required to be greater than 1x for the text to appear correctly when playing at native resolution. Otherwise, simply turn up the resolution and the text will appear normal. This works on OpenGL and Direct 3D, but not as well with Vulkan. This problem is only present when using the English patch. The original Japanese font always appears normally.
Wii Remote Sound
Sounds such as talking on the phone, the death cries of ghosts and some others are output only through the Wii Remote speaker. If you are using Wii Remote emulation, then turn on "Enable Speaker Data" in the controllers settings to output sounds to the computer speakers.
If you are using a real Wii Remote, then use Bluetooth Passthrough.

r7338 | Windows 7 | Intel Core i3 @ 2.13 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce 330m | Clear the game already except 2 crashes first after killing the certain ghost in the chapter 4 second after pickup the call in chapter 10, 30FPS | busayaphol |
3.0 | Windows 7 | Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 3.06 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce G210 | 30-20FPS, sometimes gets stuck for a second or two. | |
3.0 | Windows 7 | Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.2 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M | 30FPS 99% Speed. Perfect. The only detail is in the photo album, the pictures are all in black. | FatalRaincloud) |
r7671 | Windows 7 | Intel Core i7 @ 2.98 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce 570 GT | Perfectly playable with 3x internal resolution 8 AA (level 32) and 16x anisotropic filtering enabled at 30FPS at 1080p resolution. This is tested with Directx11 video back end, with the only issue being slight color distortions on the walls when at a distance and the character faces being distorted at a distance. | utsuni |
r7676 | Windows 7 | Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 @ 2.96 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce 430 GT | Perfectly Playable at full speed at 30FPS (At 720p, 4x ssa and 16x anisotropic filtering enabled). Battles with more than 3-5 ghosts slows down at 26-28FPS. Slow down at final boss when being chased at 20-25FPS. Crashes still exist as mentioned by busayaphol, but can be easily bypassed | SpardaDVLking3 (YouTube account) |
3.0-424 | Windows 7 | Intel Core i5 @ 2.8 GHz | AMD Radeon HD 6950 | 30FPS-27FPS, Never a frame-rate drop or a glitch.Perfectly playable from the start to the end. | bat2com |
3.0-589 | Windows 7 | Intel Core i5-2500K @ 3.3 GHz | AMD Radeon HD 6870 | 27-30FPS @ 1080p. No problem from start to end, except for the bug in Chapter 4 (see the "bugs in game" on top). | WatchMeBeibeh |
3.0-735 | Windows 7 | AMD FX 4100 @ 4 GHz | AMD Radeon HD 5750 | 27-30FPS @ 1080p. FPS drop. | Budi (INA) |
4.0.2 | Windows 8.1 | Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.5 GHz | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 | Cleared the game without any problems except the ones described above (using 3x internal resolution, 2x aa, DirectX 11 backend, HLE). Enabling OpenCL or OpenMP had negative impacts on the framerate for me. When using a real Wii Remote and xAudio2 plugin, the panio parts may not work all the time (you can't play the notes). To fix this, just do a save state, unplug/plug back the nunchuk after you've loaded your save state and try again. Another way is to use OpenAL, but the game was much slower for me. You can find video playthroughs here recorded on Dolphin 4.0.2. | Stapoli |
5.0 | Mac OS X 10.10 | Intel Core i5-4570 | AMD Radeon R9 290X | FPS30 with 1080P+4MSAA+16AF+FXAA,A little lag when FatalFrame. | YueLingShuang |
5.0-14344 | Mac OS 11.2.3 | Apple M1 | Apple M1 | Steady 30FPS with Native resolution+2XAF+V-Sync (also disabled fog & copy filter) on OpenGL Backend. A bit laggy during combat with 2+ ghosts & walking through corridors that demands more lighting. On the other hand, Vulkan is just unplayable so don't think about it. With Vulkan, I'm getting 25-30FPS, but drops to 15-20FPS during combat, with 2+ ghosts it'll be about 10. | Nathaniel1225 |
5.0-15887 | Windows 11 | AMD Ryzen R5 3600 | AMD Rx Vega 64 | Stable 30 FPS with directx 11, 4x native and 2x SSAA, game work perfect. | dante3732 |
