If EFB copies is set to "Texture" the lens flare effect is not emulated. Setting EFB copies to "Ram" fixes the issue.
The Lens Flare Effect causes newer versions of dolphin to crash suddenly during races. The Lens Flare effect is only emulated when EFB Copies is set to 'RAM' so setting EFB Copies to Texture effectively fixes this crash. It also results in dramatically improved performance.
