Photo Channel: Difference between revisions

I spent a solid 5 hours testing this, and I can safely say that it was a nightmare to test in detail.

Using "Convert Folder to File Now" in Dolphin's setup settings instead will prevent the problem.

In v1.1, photos posted from Photo Channel to Wii Message Board will be an empty black square with default Dolphin settings. Going to Graphics → Hacks → External Image Cache, and turn "Store EFB Copies to Texture Only" off, will fix it for future photo posts.

Photo Channel 1.1 Doesn't Show Up in Wii Menu
Although Photo Channel 1.1 runs when launched from Dolphin's game list, it will not show up in Wii Menu no matter what, even if it's installed to NAND, and regardless of system updates or system versions. This is due to an unusual method being used to update Photo Channel: The Photo Channel 1.1 Dummy (<code>HAZA</code>/<code>0001000048415A41</code>).

On early consoles where Dummy is not included in the firmware, users were intended to download the 1.1 update from Wii Shop Channel (Said download became unlisted when Wii Shop Channel took most of its store down). The download would include Dummy, which'd make the update show up in Wii Menu. As Dolphin does not have Dummy in its firmware either, Wii Menu believes the update is missing, and will only show 1.0 instead.

Conversely, North American and European Wiis distributed for sale from the winter of 2007-08 onwards, has Dummy (and the 1.1 update) by default, and cannot downgrade to 1.0 (Japanese Wiis in that situation could use Photo Channel 1.0 Restore Program if they wanted to downgrade).

There are no known methods as of 18 March 2024 / 5.0-21088 to sideload Dummy into the emulated Wii Menu. All of this also means that 1.1's "Post to Wii Menu" function won't work correctly either.

It is likely that a dumped NAND from a Wii (Not Wii U / vWii) will have 1.1 show up in Wii Menu, but this is not fully proven yet.
