= Managing Game Saves =
== Save States ==
This section details saving and loading save states. Save states provide a way for users to instantly save the game anywhere, at any time. Save states act as a sort of “snapshot” for a particular moment in the game. To create save states:
*Go to the Menu, select Emulation -> Save State
*Press the assigned hotkeys (Shift + F1 through F8 by default)
A total of 8 save state slots are available per game. Dolphin can also create save states to specific files and locations chosen by the user. To load save states that have already been created:
*Go to the Menu, Select Emulation -> Load State
*Press the assigned hotkeys (F1 through F8 by default)
Additionally, Dolphin can load the last overwritten save state or the last save state that was saved. Dolphin can load save states from specific files and locations chosen by the user. Dolphin can also undo the loading of a save state.
It is important for user to note that save state made while using HLE audio are incompatible with save states made while using LLE audio and vice versa (see Section 2.3). Also note that save states may be incompatible across different Dolphin versions and revisions. While using save states, users may also encounter infrequent issues of various degrees (crashing, audio distortions, graphical glitches). Although save states are largely safe and easy to use, they are not the recommended way to record overall game progress. Users should save their games using the emulated GC Memory Card or the emulated Wii System Memory to save "normally" in game.
== Memcard Manager (GC) ==
This section details managing Gamecube saves through Dolphin. To access the Memcard Manager:
*Go to the Menu, select Tools -> Memcard Manager (GC)

The Memcard Manager can manage two emulated memory cards at a time, one for Slot A and one for Slot B. Users must click the Browse button and search for the memory card file they want to examine. The default file can be found in the user's GC folder with a name such as "MemoryCardA.USA.raw" or "MemoryCardA.EUR.raw" depending the memory card's region. Dolphin will create a new memory card file if none exists when a game tries to save. Once the user has browsed to the memory card file, the Memcard Manager will load the saved contents and display them. Dolphin will display various bits of useful information such as the game's banner, the game's title, comments about the save, the save's icon, the number of blocks the save occupies, and the first block of the game save. At the bottom, the Memcard Manager also displays the emulated memory card's remaining free space.
'''Copy:''' Copies a save from one memory card to another.
'''Import GCI:''' Imports a .gci Gamecube save file into a memory card.
'''Export GCI:''' Exports a Gamecube save as a .gci file.
'''Convert to GCI:''' If a save happens to be of another format than .gci, Dolphin will attempt to convert and export it.
'''Delete:''' Deletes a Gamecube save from a memory card.
'''Prev/Next Page:''' Scrolls through the pages of the emulated memory card if there are enough entries.
