ID Guide
So I've had this ID guide sitting on my user page for forever and I'm kind of sick of looking at it. I rewrote the entire thing to remove first/second person, did a few grammatical checks, swapped some stuff around, and I really think it's in a presentable state. I'd like to get some review on it if possible for a move to its own page like Confirmation Guide or something that can be linked into :Category:Tutorials. Any thoughts would be appreciated. - Xerxes (talk) 09:58, 25 November 2017 (CET)
I moved it to confirmation guide but I'll be sad if it's fated to stay in this hidden user subpage forever... - Xerxes (talk) 12:11, 2 December 2017 (CET)
: Ok...
* I'd like to see things like R8XE52 / R8XZ52 resolved, and purged from the discussion.
* Something seems wrong with our second layer bullets (i.e. weird double bullets). I cleaned it up with indents.
* Under "How does the wiki handle IDs" should we cover the cases with XYZ titles differentiated by languages supported.
* The sources should likely be re-ordered, migrating the sources with partial IDs to the end of the list. And "Source #?" likely isn't needed in each title.

:I have a small suggestion for confirmation guide#How does the wiki handle IDs?, I think using a real world example like Super Smash Bros. Melee than using "test 123" example would have helped illustrate the example better. <s>We can also use an existing redirect page as a "new page" example and the &redirect=no will prevent it from redirecting.</s>
:There are others that could be rewritten better. But I think at its current state it's okay to go outside of your user space at least. Well, I think it's probably necessary-- it doesn't feel very encouraged when editing someone's userspace you know? It deserves some edits from other editors. It looks like a nice to have for this Dolphin Wiki.
:As Kolano suggested, the numeric sources looks like it could listed in a different way, a way to distinct between the incomplete GameID and completed GameID ideally. Lucario (talk) 04:58, 3 December 2017 (CET)
::I'm thinking Adding GameID How-to and Confirmation Guide is a good article name... Lucario (talk) 09:03, 3 December 2017 (CET)
Hey thanks a lot guys, I really appreciate it. I think I like every change that was made to the page. My intention of having it on my user page wasn't really to prevent edits, it was more because I have a trashy memory so I wrote that all out for myself (and the charts and stuff were useful to me once upon a time). It eventually became pretty fleshed out though and then I didn't really know what the hell I was supposed to do with it. I'm okay with any title for the page, I'm not too hung up on details like that. - Xerxes (talk) 14:30, 3 December 2017 (CET)
: It would be good if we can provide samples of back covers / disc images highlighting where the IDs are located. They are brought up in the GameFAQ discussion, but unclear how appropriate that is since I think GameFAQ fairly rarely includes back covers (though perhaps I'm misinformed there). GameFAQs is hit or miss like the other databases but they do usually have good cover scans. If you click on the images tab at the top for a game page, the first section under there is box shots for the game for different regions. There's only a tiny thumbnail of the front cover but if you click in there's usually a full scan if you scroll down. So, it is a good source, about as good if not better for covers than GameTDB is.
I think showing all the potential places to find IDs on the physical media is a great idea. I don't really have any photoshop skills but I made an imgur album showing all the locations that IDs can be for physical media. The instruction booklet I never mentioned before because it was never ever helpful, since finding an instruction booklet scan is even harder than a cover scan, but I put it in there for completeness. - Xerxes (talk) 05:59, 4 December 2017 (CET)
: Ah, I had forgotten that the JP front covers included IDs. I'll try to work out some sample images at some point.Kolano (talk) 06:57, 4 December 2017 (CET)
I went ahead and moved it out of my userspace now. Those preview images were the only thing this was still pending on in my opinion, I'm very happy with how it turned out. The page can now be found at Confirmation Guide, talk about it should probably move to its talk page. - Xerxes (talk) 09:59, 18 December 2017 (CET)
