Cave Story is a freeware action-adventure video game released in 2004 for PC, designed and created over five years by Daisuke Amaya, art-name Pixel. It has been translated to English by Aeon Genesis.
Nicalis, an independent video game company, worked with Daisuke Amaya to bring the game to Nintendo's WiiWare service. The updated re-release was released on March 22, 2010 in North America.
Problems
Bad Sound
If the sound plugin DSP HLE is set to 48,000 Hz, the Original Music will not play properly, producing tones that fail to stop playing. This is easily resolved by setting DSP HLE's Sample Rate to 32,000 Hz
Crashes
Dolphin may occasionally crash without explanation, despite the game running flawlessly. This appears to be resolvable simply by locking threads to cores.
End Credits/Reset crash
Cave Story calls on firmware/IOS functions to reset the game, in either the Home menu or at the end of the game credits. This may possibly be resolved by an up-to-date NAND dump, but otherwise is harmless. This crash will not prevent you from unlocking Sanctuary Time Attack or Boss Attack modes.
Configuration
This title does not need non-default settings to run properly.
Version Compatibility
The graph below charts the compatibility with Cave Story since Dolphin's 2.0 release, listing revisions only where a compatibility change occurred.
