Dolphin Forum thread |
BMX XXX was a controversial sports game based on the same engine as the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX Series. While the game is full of crude and often sexual humor, the biggest controversy comes from the inclusion of topless women in the form of customizable characters and video clips from the Scores chain of strip clubs. While these elements were toned down in the PS2 and XBox editions of the game, the GameCube version has no such limitations.
Strip away the controversial elements, and there's still a fun, challenging BMX game. The controls are well laid out, the levels are fairly large and diverse, flatland tricks have been implemented, and the events can be quite funny, if one doesn't mind the crude humor.
Problems
Non-Emulator Bugs
Two bugs exist in the game itself that can cause problems, including locking up the emulation:
- The level editor (accessible with a couple of different in-game cheat codes) was never implemented, so attempting to enter this mode will lock up the game.
- The fully upgraded bike in the "monkey" series of bikes causes the game to lock up, so certain riders cannot be completed if one collects all the bike parts.
Once again, these are not emulator glitches, but bugs present in the game itself.
Songs Looping
On the console, when a song ends the game proceeds to the next song in the soundtrack automatically. In Dolphin, the current song will loop until entering a cutscene or change the music manually.
