Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is a stealth action video game developed by Silicon Knights and Konami that was published in 2004 for the Nintendo GameCube video game console. The Twin Snakes is a remake of Metal Gear Solid, developed and first published by Konami in 1998 for the PlayStation. The Twin Snakes features graphical improvements over the original, new cutscenes written and directed by Ryuhei Kitamura, and gameplay functions originally introduced in the sequel Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. The game also includes a revised translation with re-recorded voice acting using most of the original English voice cast.
Problems
Crashing
- Crashes occur in cut-scenes and when continuing. Many cut-scenes can be skipped, but there are some mid boss battle cut-scenes that you cannot skip at all, albeit these are very short.
Work around for this is to use DSP LLE engine, people talk in game and cause the crash since the emulator can't handle it. (This may need further testing).
Error Message
On startup, several of the following two messages appear:
Message 1: BackPatch: Base reg not RBX Attempted to access 3f47e054
Message 2: BackPatch: currently only supports reads Attempted to write to 3f47e054
Battle Glitches
- When fighting the Cyborg Ninja for the first time the boss will glitch while kneeling,
making it impossible to continue since you cannot further damage him while he's kneeling. Also when fighting the Cyborg Ninja, in the fight scene that you can't skip, where he says "Now he can fight like warriors only fools trust their life to a weapon" the game can glitch and he will either run out of the scene when the battle is supposed to start but because of the glitch it will stay and a semi-scene and you cannot continue the boss battle. Final one is also similar when he says "Try and Find me" he will turn on stealth, jump, but then the game will loop and his will jump back into the scene without saying anything and the game will continue to loop untill you restart the game.
- When fighting Psycho Mantis the same can happen as with the Cyborg Ninja in terms of the unskippable scene.
Note: You cannot skip these "cut-scenes", Though they are short I had to restart the game about 5 times.
Thermal Goggles
- Wearing Thermal Goggles turns the whole screen blue making it impossible to see, both in first and third person modes.
Configuration

Test Entries | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Revision | OS | CPU | GPU | Result | Tester |
r6423 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 | nVidia GeForce 9600 GT | No Problems | |
r7310 | Windows 7 x86 | Intel Pentium E5300 @ 2.6GHz | ATI Radeon HD 5450 | Good,you have to enable MMU hack or the game crash at the title, the game don't have any problem but i can play at 30 FPS--> 60% speed with DX9 plug-in | Markon89 |
r7387 | Windows 7 x86 | Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 @ 2.13GHz | nVidia GeForce G210M | Bad, working better in OpenGL mode. Anyway, FPS meter says 28 FPS but game have a weird -annoying- slowdown; minor sound glitches and nano-communication background texture generally turns in a bad, green color | bfrheostat |
r7393 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 @ 2.8GHz | nVidia GeForce 9600 GT | Speed 70-100% FPS 25-50 DX9 plugin, good emulation and very playable | Licous |
r7571 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core i7-920 @ 4.8GHz | nVidia GeForce GTX 480 | No problem but very big crash in cutscene | YaruM |
r7671 | Windows 7 x64 | AMD Athlon X3 455 @ 3.5GHz | AMD Radeon HD 6850 | Above average, minor sound skipping in the cut-scenes when frames drop, no crashes or error messages encountered, some transparency problems around certain objects in game, 50-60FPS | otomo |
r7690 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 | nVidia GeForce 9800M GTS | No Problems, but only 35-60 FPS! | |
^r7683 | Windows 7 x86 | AMD Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.2GHz | ATI Radeon HD 5770 | Bad, codec conversations stops after some seconds, sound glitches, game crash in cut-scenes, 30-50FPS | 0005 |
3.0-201 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core i5 2500K @ 3.3GHz | nVidia GeForce 470 GTX | Playable, no cut-scene crashes. Texture Glitches on closeups. Overall Music and sound glitches, heavy sound glitches and major slowdown on alert and weapon firing, also sound (+subtitles(!)) lags behind in cut-scenes; Audio/FPS throttle doesn't fix this. 50-60FPS | |
3.0-373 | Mac OS X 10.7.2 | Intel Core i7-2675QM @ 2.2GHz | AMD Radeon HD 6750M | Playable. 47-60fps. Little to no slowdown during the introduction or first section of the game in the heliport. | jedivulcan |
3.0-377 | Windows 7 x64 | Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 @ 4.23GHz | nVidia GeForec GTX 285 2GB | Playable. Mostly smooth, with occasional slowdown. Music cuts out frequently, sometimes permanently, and sound and music crackles. | Lycan |
