The Last Story (ラストストーリー, Rasuto Sutōrī) is an action role-playing game developed by Mistwalker and AQ Interactive, and published by Nintendo for the Wii. The game was created by the creator of the Final Fantasy series, Hironobu Sakaguchi. Nintendo and Mistwalker both sought to create "a new form of RPG by choosing the universal theme of human emotion".

Nintendo originally did not intend to bring The Last Story to North America, but massive pressure from fans has convinced Nintendo to give it a NA release, albeit published by XSEED and not Nintendo itself. The game became a huge commercial success and the best selling title XSEED has ever developed.

Problems

Overly Bright Areas

Fog in this game effects lightning, but sometimes it can be too bright. If fog is disabled - it's too dark. Also if fog enabled there will be dark reflection on the water, more with D3D9 backend. Some times this problems can be resolved by switching per-pixel lightning (or disabling it). Loading a savestate may disable fog as a byproduct, for a quicker method to disable it.

Clothes texture missing

Parts of the body and clothing are missing. Enable "EFB Copies to RAM" to fix this.

  • NOTE: You can change it back to EFB to Texture once the game is running. Keep in mind that with EFB to Texture active, every time a new model is introduced, such as meeting a new character, going through a loading screen, equipping a new armour etc, it will not load. Switch to RAM before a new model is loaded to prevent it.
    • The "Enable Hotkeys" setting, found in the Graphics settings, under the Advanced tab, can be used to speed up this process. With hotkeys enabled, press "5" to toggle between EFB to Texture and EFB to Ram.

Audio stuttering in FMVs

The audio in some FMVs in the game will stutter if you don't have a very fast CPU. If you encounter this, disable "Idle Skipping" to fix it (or just enable EFB Copies to Texture).

Odd Random Blurring

The games depth of field effects sometimes seems to go awry, randomly blurring odd elements. This can be fixed by pressing Shift+F1 then F1 to save then load a savestate.

Configuration

Only configuration options for the best compatibility where they deviate from defaults are listed.

Wii

Config Setting Notes
Use PAL60 Mode (EuRGB60) Enabled Needed for the game to start.
