*Enable FullScreen rendering in separate window.
*Check "Enabled Dual Core" if your CPU supports it.
*At "Fullscreen Display resolution" choose a display resolution. If you use built gfx try to use lowest resolution (e.g. 256x192:) to see how speed of emulation depends on your gfx perfomance.
*Direct3D9 render is buggy but faster - so try it first.
*To play in 720p change the "Window Size" to 1280x720. For 1080p simply choose 1920x1080. Warning: it may decrease perfomance if you have LowEnd (built in) gfx card.

* For some games like [[Super Mario Galaxy]] (SMG) the option "Enable CPU->EFB access" under "Graphics -> Direct3D" needs to be checked in order to be able to pull the stars. However, this can cause slowdowns.
* If experiencing crashes in some games, check the option "Safe Texture Cache".

Configuring Dolphin the right way is very important to run games smoothly. This performance guide will show a "quick and dirty" example of how to speed up Dolphin. There is also a guide offering a Configuration Explanation. Open Dolphin and there are three configuration related buttons: Config, Graphics and DSP.

Config

Apply the following settings:

  • Check "Enabled Dual Core" if your CPU supports it.

Graphics

  • The "Direct3D9" is fast and supported by most games and video cards. It is recommended you use it unless this unless you encounter problems or it isn't supported by your system.
  • Setting the "Fullscreen resolution" to your monitors native display resolution is recommended. However, a lower "Fullscreen resolution" may boost performance for users with inferior graphics cards.
  • Set Internal Resolution to "Auto - (Multiple of 640x528)". If your computer has slowdown, change to "1x Native (640x528)" and go up from there till you can find the highest setting without slowdown.
  • Checking "Skip EFB Access from CPU" can provide a speed boost. However, some games like Super Mario Galaxy require this to be unchecked to function properly.
  • "EFB Copies - Virtual" has good performance and good compatibility with most games.

DSP

File:Dolphin emulator dsp.png

  • Under "DSP" uncheck "Enable Audio Throttle" and set "Volume" to 100%.
  • DSP HLE emulation is the fastest DSP Emulator Engine, however it is somewhat unreliable. DSP LLE recompiler is more accurate and is require by some games.

The Gamespeed is too fast!

Some games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Smash Bros. Brawl run on modern Systems too fast. There are two ways to slow the Gamespeed down to normal:

  • Framelimit Off + Audio Throttle checked
  • Framelimit Auto + Audio Throttle unchecked
  • Framelimit Off + Audio Throttle unchecked, Enable V-Sync (with a 60htz monitor refresh rate)

How can I play in 720p or 1080p?

To play in 720p go to "Graphics -> Direct3D" and change the Window Size to 1280x720. For 1080p simply choose 1920x1080.
