The Region Select channel allows revising the Wii's assigned region. It is not accessed from the Wii Menu, but rather from a menu option in various games (such as Mario Kart Wii and Everybody Votes Channel).
Access the Channel Natively
To access the channel as intended without the use of custom shortcuts to the app, there are 2 established methods as of February 2024:
- In Mario Kart Wii, on the file select screen, select Settings in the upper right → Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection → Select Region.
- In Everybody Votes Channel, if the app is going through its initial setup, and the region has never been set through any other means before, Region Select is accessed through a prompt message.
Error 109144 ("Unable to connect to the Internet.")
Certain Wii apps that depend on Region Select, will instantly produce this error message when trying to connect to them online. While the cause of the error is debated, the error code is intended to mean "WC24 account not registered", potentially related to how all default-NAND Dolphin configurations have the Wii number (a.k.a. Friend Code) 0000 0000 0000 0000 by default. Fixing the error would potentially require changing the number, which likely requires a NAND dump; as of February 2024, third-party apps to change subregions did not work in Dolphin.
Missing Game List Banner
Certain Wii apps and homebrew apps never create savefiles that are handled by the emulated Wii's internal savefile lists, so no banners are ever generated for them in Dolphin.
No configuration changes are known to affect compatibility for this channel.
The graph below charts the compatibility with Region Select since Dolphin'srelease, listing revisions only where a compatibility change occurred.
This channel has been tested on the environments listed below:
|AMD Ryzen 5 3600 @ 3.6 GHz
|NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060
|Tested by using a multitude of methods over a 5-hour timespan. Always resulted in Error 109144 listed above.
