Wii system language boot effect

Wouldn't it make sense for the wiki to inform the user about problems of emulation in combination with system language? I think it would be best to handle the problem like we handle the Gamecube font problem and inform the user in the "Emulation Information" section while making it easy for the editor and just enter something like "{{Language issue}}". I mean if we even inform the user about fonts and not correctly aligned text. That would be easy, fast, informative and helpful. I requested the feature for automatic language matching with the information that it causes trouble in some games and the developer seemed to be surprised, but it got accepted. Thanks! A shared problem template should be added for these. It may be bit more complicated than many of the other templates, as it may require a parameter or two to handle text for the appropriate languages, though a generic "must match a language on the disc" may be acceptable. Refer a few other titles with pre-existing issues to this region locking issue, many others likely have never been detected due to alignment with Dolphin's default settings:

Should we really document this on every game's page though? In my experience, so many games crash on boot due to missing the splash screen for languages outside the region, that they become the rule rather than the exception. It's a bit like if we documented that the widescreen hack should be disabled for every Wii game. You would end up seeing the template on almost every article. Perhaps this is more suited to a general troubleshooting section?

It's a bit different than the widescreen hack though.
  • New Users probably know that the Wii supports widescreen natively. New European/Asian users LIKELY don't know about the fact that a wrong language will result in the game being unplayable. (Especially because Dolphin itself spits NOTHING out)
  • NTSC games support different possible languages, which are different for each game. (some support French, some Spanish, some don't)
  • The general troubleshooting section is a little bit too invisible. Maybe we add a "Possible Region Issues: 'Link to general troubleshooting'" to every Wii game
I think we should do it at least until issue 11299 is implemented. This wiki should (at least in my opinion) be more inclusive and less alienating. (this issue, region-specific names, etc.). This shouldn't affect the rating. Maybe it's better to add a disclaimer for all Wii games via automation or something like that. Kimishima (talk) 20:48, 28 July 2018 (CEST)
  • Unlike the Widescren options Language is a default setting that effects titles booting or not. So we should cover this, since it effects a lot of titles we should be cautious about how we do so.

That will need some closer investigation. Though on second though, this won't effect titles only released in NA (or EU releases with a merge UK/English release), which likely means it doesn't effect a good number of titles.
  • It may be more appropriate to handle this problem under the "Emulation Information" section, particularly if we don't feel it should impact ratings.
  • I have a feeling variations in supported languages will make issue 11299 somewhat difficult to handle appropriately (i.e. while still respecting users language selections).
