The Wii Menu is the top-level menu interface of the Wii game console. It has four pages, each with a 4-by-3 grid, and each displaying the current time and date. Available applications, known as "channels", are displayed and can be navigated using the pointer capability of the Wii Remote. The grid is customizable; users can move channels (except for the Disc Channel) amongst the menu's 47 customizable slots.

Any channel launched from the Wii System Menu will display the following error, if the "Use Panic Handlers" option is checked in Dolphin's configuration: "Unknown pointer 0xffffffff Continue?". Choosing Yes will cause Dolphin to continue normally, choosing No will crash the emulator. The same issue occurs if you go back to the Wii System Menu by pressing the Home button, selecting "Wii Menu" and selecting "Yes" to the "Return to Wii Menu?" dialog. If the "Use Panic Handlers" option isn't checked, the answer to this error will always be Yes.

Wii Channels are applications available for the Wii console through the Wii Menu. The Wii uses several pre-installed Channels for many of its basic functions, such as launching discs, buying Virtual Console games, and managing Miis. Additional applications and games can be downloaded through the the Wii Shop Channel, giving the Wii console much more flexibility than its predecessors.

Internet Connectivity

A number of Channels, such as the Internet Channel, will not function without following the Wii Network Guide. Support for Wii networking emulation is still limited, but it should work.

  Perfect: No issues at all!
  Playable: Runs well, only minor graphical or audio glitches. Games can be played all the way through
  Starts: Starts, maybe even plays well, but crashes or major graphical/audio glitches
  Intro/Menu: Hangs/crashes somewhere between booting and starting
  Broken: Crashes when booting
  Unknown: Has not been tested yet
